1810

Seth Severance, Elia May and Samuel Cherry settled here.
Ezra May built a log hotel.
First Distillery at Cheeves by John White

1811

Timothy Norton built a Grist Mill in the Hollow.

 

1812

Approximately 20 men from New Haven answered the call.
Soloman Smith built the first frame house.

1813

New Haven formed from Mexico
First Dr. came to New Haven, Dr. E. Colt 1813-1830.
First Post Office started east of Hamlet now Butterfly Corners.
First Post Office started by J. Bailey in his house, 2 miles west of present village.

1814

First town meeting held at Ansel Snow Res. 66 votes cast.
Jonathan Wing 1st Town Clerk
David Eason 1st supervisor.
First road opened before 1806. Now we have 12 road districts.

1815

8 prominent arrivals came here to settle after the war of 1812. Calvin Eason, Orris Hart, Hezekiah Nicholas, being in the group
Nichols & Marvin built a Grist Mill.

1816

Gridley built a mill 1/2 mile from the H Hollow.
There are now 8 towns in Oswego County. Constantia, Mexico, Hannibal, New Haven, Richland, Red Field & Williamstown.
Cummins opened a Mill south of Hamlet.
New Potash Mill east of Hamlet run by Orris Hart.

1817

Charter was filed at county clerks office for the congregational church.
Norman Rowe settled here.
During Rev. Chester Wheeler's ministry a group of men formed the "Man's Brotherhood". The group voted to make Vermillion a dry township. Rev. Wheeler served from 1917-1920 in Vermillion Church.

1818

East of Village Orris Hart  built 2nd distillery

1819

Hamlet name changed from Gay Head to New Haven.
